On Sunday, both my Dad and I went to Bright Hill Monastery to pay our respect to Engkong and Grandpa, my grandfather from both paternal and maternal sides. This is an issue I feel dutiful about, for respecting our elders is a virtuous deed. When I first arrived, there is the scent of smoke, which is common for Buddhist places that burns joss stick and offerings. Well, this is an effect both my father and I ignored, for the purpose of visiting our ancestors are important. Well, we are greeted by a statue of a friendly and serene monk, who seems to be smiling at us. I take this as a friendly gesture by the Monastery for our respectful purpose. I set up the table for my father and we prayed.
I prayed in my Christian way, for while I agree with Buddhist principles, my foundation has been from the Church. I am open to love for all religion is good and similar. To me, there is one God, and all religion belief converges to one higher presence. I kept my integrity in form.
While we were given the chance to meet our ancestor at their resting place, I reminded myself to be very respectful of this place, for this place warrants respect and peace. We met Engkong, and we prayed for Engkong, hoping that his soul is well rested in a safe place. When we left, there is one man who came to wish me well in studies and my father well in his business, and truly I felt the joy, for both my father and I still have to endeavour for our success. May God bless the earnest endeavourer.
